Quick answer
A modern tune-up at Wenzel's Automotive replaces wear items in the ignition and fuel systems, such as spark plugs and filters, and checks the coils, injectors, belts and hoses. It restores smooth running and fuel economy on engines that have reached their service interval or have started to misfire.
What is included
- Spark plug replacement
- Ignition coil and wiring checks
- Fuel injector cleaning and fuel system service
- Air and cabin filter replacement
- Belt and hose inspection
- Ignition timing check where it applies
Signs you need it
- Hard starting, especially on cold mornings
- Rough idle or a misfire
- Hesitation when accelerating
- Lower fuel economy
- The spark plug interval in your manual is due
What changed about tune-ups
Older engines needed frequent adjustments. Newer engines run spark plugs much longer and manage timing by computer, so a tune-up today is about replacing what wears out and testing what the computer cannot fix by itself.
Misfires and fuel economy
A worn plug or a weak coil can cause a misfire that wastes fuel and can damage the catalytic converter over time. Catching it early is cheaper than replacing a converter.
